How we work

The CRF is based at St James’s University Hospital, with our main research facility located in the hospital’s Bexley Wing and our management team based in the nearby Research and Innovation Centre. The CRF is co-located with high dependency and intensive care units, and other relevant emergency support services, to provide maximum patient safety.

The CRF team is led by Clinical Director, Professor Chris Twelves, supported by CRF Manager Debbie Beirne and Research & Innovation Manager, Richard Evans. The CRF management team provides strategic leadership, operational management and quality assurance to ensure our activities are carried out to the highest possible standards and meet UK regulatory and governance requirements.

Our satellite facilities at Leeds General Infirmary, Chapel Allerton Hospital and the Leeds Dental Institute have dedicated equipment and clinical expertise, closely aligned to their specialist clinical services. This increases the opportunities for our patients to take part in research and embeds that research in our clinical service.

Each of our core areas of activity has a speciality lead:

Clinical contacts in other disease areas can be made through the CRF management team - see our contact page.
