NIHR funding award announced

Monday 28th February 2022

We are delighted to share fantastic news from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) that the NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility (CRF) has been awarded funding of £8.7 million over the next 5 years.

This is a huge achievement and credit to the NIHR CRF team at the Trust, working with our key partner, the University of Leeds. The funding allocation represents an eleven-fold increase over our previous award. This will genuinely transform experimental medicine research in Leeds, allowing the NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facilities across the city to be united under the NIHR CRF umbrella.

This significant award will enhance the scope of research that takes place across the city at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds Children’s Hospital, Chapel Allerton Hospital and Leeds Dental Institute. It will further strengthen our researchers’ capability to carry out research into conditions that are relevant to our local population. Importantly, more of our patients will be able to access experimental medicine trials with the potential to deliver positive benefits.
