Many of the trials delivered at the NIHR Leeds CRF are run in collaboration with commercial companies who are developing new treatments or testing new devices. Some of these trials are co-funded by medical research charities and by the Government.
We collaborate with some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, such as AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and Roche and also work with specialist small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), such as E-therapeutics, Oncolytics and Transgene.
The NIHR Leeds CRF is a popular choice for companies looking to run clinical trials because our expertise and facilities give us the capability to run any type of trial across nearly every disease area.
The patient pool we can recruit from is extensive. Leeds Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country, providing specialist care for up to 5.4 million people in Yorkshire and Humberside, drawn from a region that is ethnically and geographically diverse.
The strong partnership between Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the University of Leeds jointly represents a vast wealth of resources – financial, infrastructure, people and methodologies – that companies working with us can draw on. This spans the entire medical pipeline from discovery science through to widespread and routine implementation at patient and practitioner level. The clinical and academic resources underpinning our facility ensures we provide an exceptionally high quality of data from our trials. Additional expertise we draw on includes the Leeds Clinical Trials Research Unit, the Haematological Malignancies Diagnostics Service, the Leeds Biobanking and Sample Processing Facility and phenotyping expertise within the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre.
